URL encoding info

URLs may only contain a limited set of ASCII characters. Everything else — spaces, Persian letters, emoji, and reserved characters used as data — is written as % followed by the hex value of each UTF-8 byte.

  • encodeURI — For a whole URL: keeps : / ? & = # intact and escapes spaces and non-ASCII characters.
  • encodeURIComponent — For one part of a URL (a query value or path segment): escapes every reserved character.
  • Form data — application/x-www-form-urlencoded, as HTML forms send it: like a component, but spaces become +.

URL Encoder & Decoder

Percent-encode a URL or its query parameters, or decode them back to readable text. Non-Latin characters and special symbols are converted correctly, and everything happens in your browser.
